Where would you like to see yourself 12 months from now, in terms of being a materials writer?

Where would you like to see yourself 12 months from now, in terms of being a materials writer?

After having writen a few books under very strict rules, parameters, conditions, etc. I'd like to publish a book that no publishing company would take on! All the things that are out of the question, politics, religion, language that no coursebook would ever include, etc. I imagine it would be self-published, sales 2 (my best friend and my mother!). Still, that's what I've been thinking for the last two years! :)

I'm sure I got this idea from someone, somewhere.

I'm sure I got this idea from someone, somewhere. This is a 5' activity at the end of a class, and it can change according to the topic you've been dealing with, the interest of your class, or a current event. Basically, anything goes.

I used to teach adults with no specific interest other than they just wanted to learn the language.

I used to teach adults with no specific interest other than they just wanted to learn the language. They would come to class exhausted from work, from taking care of the kids and so on. Their mobile phones would always be on and I took advantage of that. As far as adults go, they want to talk about serious issues, but usually coursebooks don't really touch on these. The outcome was usually a heated debate. (This would be one of the mildest ones!)
PS. This is my dog, Nava.

I also disagree with th statement.

I also disagree with th statement. Students are more likely to speak with a non-native whether it is while travelling, studying or working. There is also the issue of which native? English - which English? I think Crystal made a good point point when he talked about spoken Englishes, and the difference with written English. In a nutshell, there are many spoken Englishes, but basically one written one.

When I used to teach, students would - at some point - ask me about a song, the lyrics and what they meant.

When I used to teach, students would - at some point - ask me about a song, the lyrics and what they meant. More often than not, I wouldn't know. So, one way to deal with it was to make the connection between poetry and song lyrics. This was my way of telling them, "it's what you think that matters".

PS. Google docs seems to have a mind of its own and rearranges things as it likes!!! I did not know that :)

Easy to use/understood by students and teachers (without needing to look at notes and teacher's guides)

Easy to use/understood by students and teachers (without needing to look at notes and teacher's guides)
Not packed with too much information (don't be afraid of the white I call it).
Instructions (my weak point). I always find these tremendously difficult.
Staged. There has to be a logical connection to the exercises on the page(s).

This is the first week's assignment.

This is the first week's assignment. I found it really difficult to create something without a specific class/book/level/skill in mind. I imagine this would be for a B2 level / vocabulary part of a lesson.

Hi everyone

Hi everyone,

It's lovely to be here. The first question everyone asks someone they meet for the first time is "Where are you from?" Not the best question for me. Let me explain. Born in England, lived there for years, parents from Greece, live in Greece now. In England I was the Greek, in Greece they call me "Anglida" - English. So, I consider myself an in-between!! :)
I've taught English for almost 20 years. I don't teach anymore, but as the saying goes "Once a teacher always a teacher."
Looking forward to working with everyone and picking everyone's brains.
