Hey everyone -
Here's my last assignment. It's for a flipped-classroom where students read the information on the Five-Paragraph essay on the following websites:
http://grammar.ccc.commnet.edu/grammar/five_par.htm
http://www.bucks.edu/media/bcccmedialibrary/pdf/FiveParagraphEssayOutlineJuly08_000.pdf
They then complete the crossword puzzle below that I designed on the website www.armoredpenguin.com
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1qysg_Dh0djCGKNcvm2ClkDVayg_0E_VhAsMABb4wWjI/edit?usp=sharing
I would then have them identify all of the parts of an essay in the following essay, which I got from Longman Academic Writing Series 5:

I've really learned a lot about creating content from this course.
I've really learned a lot about creating content from this course. It was a great investment, and I really wanted to thank everyone involved in putting it together.
In 12 months, I see myself doing a lot better at creating original content that would be impressive to an employer. I really liked learning about Creative Commons because it's a lot simpler way to share media across the internet, and it opened up a new world of content that would help me and my students.. I also think this is the most amount of resources I've ever collected in one class (even though it was only a month long!) I wanted to thank everyone - teachers and people participating alike - for sharing all of the online resources they use. It was extremely helpful, and this will make my job a lot easier for years to come.

For people starting out as creating content as a TESOL instructor, I guess would advise them to do 3 things:
1. Try to learn about your students' interests and try to incorporate them into the content you create. Most people normally don't trust people who aren't trying to relate to them.
2. With #1 in mind, you should incorporate your own interests into your classes. Even if it's a technical term or something you wrote your thesis on, I find students respect you when you enjoy what you teach.
3. I feel you need the mindset of a writer in order to be a good content creator. You should find inspiration in your life and constantly be reflecting on your materials and how you can make them more effective for your students. Even if it's just a funny story that you can help them better understand a concept, that's what language is all about: helping: shared experiences and understanding one another.

hello everyone -
hello everyone -
This is my assignment for week 3. I apologize for being late.
When I use pictures, I mostly use them as a warm-up activity for my younger students. I thought this might be a good journal assignment for a writing class for young ELL students. It was good practice citing using the Creative Commons materials. If would appreciate it if anyone could give me feedback on how I cited the pictures.

Here are my materials for week 2.
Here are my materials for week 2. I did an activity based on a text last week, so I decided to do a reading comprehension activity for upper elementary students who are B1-B2 this week. I thought this might be a good activity for an international school where inclusion is encouraged. Any suggestions on added activities or how to improve the aesthetics of the reading text would be appreciated.
There are three worksheets to this activity:

When using an authentic audio or video it is important to use only ‘native speakers'.
I wholeheartedly disagree with this, as there are lots of studies that show that ELL students who practice with one another tend to progress in ways that interacting with native speakers cannot. In my own classes, I try to use audio with non-native speakers.
I usually teach students whose goal is to eventually study in the US, and if they don't practice understanding a variety of accents, they will probably run into a few surprises. I have some students who have trouble understanding different accents, and it's important to practice this so that they are able to interact with people from a variety of different backgrounds (whom they will find if they travel to most countries where English is the primary language).

For me, the most important thing is that the materials are something my students can relate to. They should include themes that the students understand and be entertaining.
The content should also be easy for the students to understand. They shouldn't have to do too much guesswork on what they have to do.
I also like for my materials to be aesthetically pleasing. Any feedback about that concerning the materials I create in this class would be much appreciated.
I would really like any feedback on the above-mentioned items on the assignments for this class.
Thanks,
Amy

Hello everyone -
Hello everyone -
This is the assignment from week 1. Sorry I'm late!
I work at a university where I teach academic writing to lower-division university students. One thing I have trouble with is making the materials fun and more interactive for my students because the material is more advanced than what I've worked with in the past. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Hello everyone -
Hello everyone -
I'm originally from Texas, but I've been teaching TESOL abroad since 2009. I've taught all age groups in S. Korea, Hungary, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and I'm currently teaching academic writing to university students in the Sichuan province in China. I'm looking forward to this class because I'd like to be able to create content that helps my students because it's a competitive program where they get to transfer to an American university after their sophomore years if they make the grades.
I hold an MA in TESOL from SIT (Vermont, USA), which I received in 2016. I look forward to taking this class, as I've enjoyed all of the classes I've taken at iTDi.
I'm excited about working with you all.
Best,
Amy
