Hi everyone!

Hi everyone!
I think we do need authentic material in our classrooms. It's a way of exposing learners to a real and natural language. We do need a real context as well because we are preparing them to be able to communicate with different people in different scenarios. However, they will find people from different countries and languages speaking English, native or non-native speakers so they have to be exposed to different accents and different "Englishes" to finally be able to understand them. To conclude, it's not essential to expose learners just to native speakers but to a variety of speakers. Have a great week!

Hi everyone!

Hi everyone!
The most important principle for me is to expose learners to language in authentic use. We need to expose our students to the language in the same way they were exposed when learning their mother tongue. When using authentic material, we're exposing learners to a language that is not being graded. In that case, students will start to pick up new vocabulary and understand the message. When ready, they will start to produce by themselves. This is important for them to be able to communicate in every single context. At first they may not understand what a native speaker may be saying. We teachers can help them using gestures and pictures. Once they are exposed systematically, they start to understand the whole idea.

Hello everybody!

Hello everybody! My name is Laura Perrotta. I'm from Entre RĂos, Argentina. I run my own language school in my city. I've developed an approach to teach English for different levels but I'm really passionate about young learners. I'm doing an MA at the moment. My first module was about ELT Material Writing. I read Katherine's book Writing Primary Materials and found it really amazing. I usually present about the approach I've developed in different conferences in my country and abroad. I really think Education should change. I'm trying to do my best to see that change. I'm eager to start the course! See you tomorrow!
