Hi everyone!
The most important principle for me is to expose learners to language in authentic use. We need to expose our students to the language in the same way they were exposed when learning their mother tongue. When using authentic material, we're exposing learners to a language that is not being graded. In that case, students will start to pick up new vocabulary and understand the message. When ready, they will start to produce by themselves. This is important for them to be able to communicate in every single context. At first they may not understand what a native speaker may be saying. We teachers can help them using gestures and pictures. Once they are exposed systematically, they start to understand the whole idea.
