Which ONE piece of advice would you give a teacher who wanted to create their own classroom material?

Which ONE piece of advice would you give a teacher who wanted to create their own classroom material?

I would say: When this idea comes to your head, sit down and think very, very carefully. Where do you want to be in one year's time with your materials? In five years' time? In twenty years' time? Explore your motives and be honest with yourself.

When using an authentic audio or video it is important to use only ‘native speakers’.

Do you agree or disagree? Give reasons.

I can say that I disagree. Totally.

One of the little illuminating moments happened when some time ago I came across a Ukrainian youtuber who lives in Poland and talks about this country in Polish. I watched some of his videos and I enjoyed them immensely.

His material is authentic and it provides really interesting content. Does he have an accent? Yes, he does. Does he make mistakes? Yes, he does. But what he says is more important.

Do we need models in the form of so-called 'native speakers'? Of course, we do. Do we have to remember that we will also communicate with people for whom English is not L1? Of course, we do.

And if we decided that it is 'native speakers' only in audios and videos, we should be consistent and ban 'non-natives' from the classroom. Do we want this to happen?

This is a speaking lesson about time and time proverbs.

This is a speaking lesson about time and time proverbs. I prepared it for a group of students (ideally 10-15 people), but it can be easily modified and done with a smaller group.

Sometimes my 1-2-1 students feel tired with course books or they want to talk more, so I need some emergency materials and this is one the reasons for constructing this lesson. I haven't tested it yet but I am planning to :)

Hope you like it. Please, feel free to use it in your classroom. Any comments are welcome.

Which principles of Material Design are most important for you? Why?

Which principles of Material Design are most important for you? Why?

The most important principle is:

Material design is all about ELIMINATING.

When I start to think about a new lesson, I usually have too many ideas and I don't know which way to go. So I consider my options and I eliminate.
When I plan my lesson, I look at the stages and I eliminate, leaving only the most necessary ones.
When I write texts, tasks and rubrics, I eliminate all clutter and superfluous wording.
When I format my document, I eliminate as much formatting as possible.
