Which ONE piece of advice would you give a teacher who wanted to create their own classroom material?
I would say: When this idea comes to your head, sit down and think very, very carefully. Where do you want to be in one year's time with your materials? In five years' time? In twenty years' time? Explore your motives and be honest with yourself.
I ask myself this all the time. I have abandoned my big dreams for daily wins. My anxiety levels have gone and I feel very “in the present” now. I have milstones that I know will take me years to achieve.
ReplyDeleteI heard a quote from Tony Robbins
“People overestimate what they can achieve in a year. And people greatly underestimate what they can achieve in 10.”
This quote often runs through my head.
Rhett Burton This is a brilliant quote :)
ReplyDeleteBeing in the present is important. I am working on book now with my friend. Altogether we have to produce around 300 pages. When I look at this mountain of work, I don't want to climb it. I just narrow my vision and tell myself: Write one or two tasks, think about your next step, don't rush it. Eventually you will get there.
What kind of "big dreams" did you have? (Or is it too personal?)
Roman Ociepa I have abandoned the my big idea for today. And I know, if i do what I feel is the best to move me forward today, then I will have the small wins that I need to get to tomorrow. I don't know exactly what my big idea is yet so I will keep creating the mosaic day-by-day. A directions I have: to start a small school (check), write a few books (almost checked), get teachers to use them (not checked). These are my next two small steps.
ReplyDeleteRhett Burton Does it mean that you have a language school? And what kind of books do you produce?
ReplyDeleteI think that it sounds like a sensible plan. Or sensible mosaic.
I started my own publishing company with a book (fiction book) that was a complete disaster financially, but taught me a lot of things. Now I am trying to plan but at the same time I go with the flow.
Great!
