Hi everyone!

Hi everyone!

I'm excited and eager to take this course with you all and have enjoyed reading your introductions.

I taught in Japan from 2001-2014 in a range of contexts from kindy, JHS/HS and uni to private corporations, government ministries and an NGO/NPO, as well as doing some private classes and tuition. Having spent the last 4 years primarily as a stay-at-home dad with 3 littl'uns, I've just been doing some tuition for primarily-aged kids, plus tutoring MA TESOL and MA Applied Linguistics candidates. Now, I'm gradually re-launching my career and have enjoyed developing the new iTDi TESOL Certificate Course and hosting The Teachers' Room with Steven Herder since February.

From lesson planning to materials development, I've always had a passion for the creative-side as we try to craft, support, and stimulate the learning process. And as I moved away from textbooks to developing course-specific materials, I became increasingly interested in materials development and would like to learn to do this more professionally.

  2. Sounds like you have been stepping back and then leaning in. I have 2 young sons here in South Korea. "Stimulating the leaning process"- love it!

  6. Miss Alex Rehmat Ebrahim Roman Ociepa Thanks for posting.

Funnily enough, I always think it's more interesting to see other people's profiles, which is pretty natural, I guess.

  7. Rhett Burton Nice expression - 'leaning in' - will have to borrow that!

How old are you boys? My kids are now 3, 5, and 7. Youngest just starting kindy and the eldest just entered primary school.

  10. Hi Phil, that sounds very interesting. I like the creative side myself. I participated in the team that created the first online teacher training course based on the CEFR. I just finished coordinating the C1 online project. It started in September and I can't wait to hear feedback from the teachers. I love creating materials and want to be good at it. I am particularly interested in "new" engaging and motivating techniques because we need them for the students here.

The more I know the more I realise I don't know" equally applies to "The more I do, the more I realise I haven't done" ;-)
