I felt that week four assignment is kind of the most challenging for me.

I felt that week four assignment is kind of the most challenging for me. I don't know whether that was because I wanted to aim high and create something that is genuine and new or because I was not creative enough to make the job easier for myself!
In our summer school courses, we do graded readers with students of different age groups, so I created a board game to review all language and content of one of the readers "The Prince and the Pauper".
Anyway, I created a board game. I used Publisher to create the table myself (rather than using a ready template) , then filled it with some questions and other instructions. I am still exploring Publisher, so I had to copy the document to Word to save it at the end !

  1. I really like the idea of combining questions about the reading they've done with a board game!

  4. Hi Ayat,

Thanks for sharing your week 4 materials. I wonder why this was a challenge for you. I’m impressed by the results. Boardgames are motivating and it’s great to experiment with software to do this kind of thing.

The game is a great way to review the Reading they have done in a fun way. It could be used again and again too.

I think you could/should write some simple instructions directed at the studnets too. Then if you use the game, they can have the added benefit of reading and following instrcutions – always good practice. I think writing game instructions are one of the most difficult things for a materials writer.

    Great.

  5. Katherine Bilsborough thank you for the advice on writing instructions. When I reflect on why I felt it was challenging, I think it's because I have always aimed at creating authentic materials during this course and games are one thing we use a lot while teaching. So whenever you think of a game, it's usually something you've seen or used before! Another reason is maybe I am not creative enough to come up with an idea of a game (esp. as printed material) as I create and use a lot of online games with my students ! Anyway, I believe this task was good practice that will get me to think more about creating different kinds of materials .
