Hi Everyone! I'm awfully late with the assignments, July has been a hectic month!
I prepared a lesson based on a text about Vincent van Gogh which I found in a book that I love - "The Paintings that Revoultionized Art" - and on his paintings. I've been meaning to use this book to develop ELT materials since I bought, over a year ago.
At first, I wanted to keep the worksheet simple, but I ended up creating something longer than I had planned.
One important thing to me was to include a note about how teachers should be careful when dealing with sensitive mental health issues in class.
All in all, I'm happy with the final result. Van Gogh is one of my favorite artists and I have a print of "The Starry Night" in my dining room.

Hi Viviane,
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting your week 2 materials. Better late than never! I know that July can be crazy for some of us.
I love Van Gogh and Starry Night is one of my favourites so I enjoyed looking at your materials. I like the idea of addressing mental health issues in a sensitive way too – well done.
The worksheet is lovely, really profesional looking. A few comments:
Task 1. It isn’t clear where the students get the information to take notes from. I think it’s the discussion but this should be made explicit.
I’d have the first two sentences as an intro and then start the instruction afterwards.
Nice sequence of tasks and the design is great. Where is the audio from? Did you make it yourself?
In the language toolbox and in Task 4 painting titles, I’d get rid of the italics – they aren’t necessary with the use of coloured font and bold.
Well done!
Hi, Katherine! Thanks for your feedback. You are right about the rubrics in Activity 1. They are long and not very clear. I'm working on a project right now that demands giving background info about the topic of the task in the rubrics and I kind of got influenced by it.
ReplyDeleteSo here goes a new version, following your suggestions:
[Intro] Vincent Van Gogh is one of the most famous painters in the world. How much do you know about his life? The activities in this lesson will help you review and expand your knowledge about him and one of his paintings.
1. Use the words and phrases in the box to put together some ideas about van Gogh and his life. Share your ideas your a classmate.
The audio was adapted from the same book used in other activities - I forgot to provide the source, sorry!
