Hello everyone.

Hello everyone. Here is my week 3 assignment. As a visual I have decided to use one short storyboard which I have created myself using https://www.storyboardthat.com. Based on that, I have designed two worksheets and relevant activities for B1-B2 teenage learners.

Something to share: I found http://storyboardthat.com very useful as it is an online free tool which allows you to create your own storyboards. Moreover, you can ask your students to use it. They can create their stories and have fun with the scenes, characters and many other options that this page offers.

Your feedback is more than welcome. See you tomorrow :)

P.S If you wish, you can try and decode the text yourself and let me know if it was challenging enough :)

  1. Very nice activity Erëza Mehmeti . I appreciate how you tried to create a student-centered activity that would be interesting to teens; writing the captions and decoding the message. However, I am not sure it will be challenging enough for B1/B2 because it's not clear what the language focus is! I think it can be used even with A2! I had a similar idea as I usually use makebeliefscomix.com - HOME - Make Beliefs Comix with students to create their own comics, which I can then use to create more activities.

  3. Hi Ereza,
Thank you for sharing your materials with the group. Thank you too for introducing me to this storyboard website which I didn’t know. That’s always a bonus.

It was also lovely to see comments and suggestions and especially Ayat’s post. You won’t believe how rewarding it is for me to see such collaboration between participants. I love the fact that you incorporated a coded message too – it’s a small thing that realy adds an extra dimension in terms of motivation and fun. Great!

Thanks for the background info too. Not only is it useful for me but it’s always a good idea to write notes like these so that you are forced to really think about the materials you are creating.

    Some comments about the worksheet:
It all looks very professional and the storyboard will, I’m sure, be very motivating.
A lovely sequence of tasks right up to (and including) the homework task.
You haven’t said whether this is an activity for indicidual studnets or pairs (or groups). I think that something like this would be better done in pairs – just because of the creative/ideas aspect.

I’d be curious to see what your students actually wrote.

  4. Katherine Bilsborough Thank you for your comments. I definitely agree that such tasks are better done in pairs.

I always like to challenge my students and make them compete against one another (in this case, pairs vs. pairs). However, I always try to encourage them to think about how fast they have performed previously when they had similar tasks and how they performed now. The idea is for them not to see other students as opponents but to reflect on their own progress, yet with a taste of competition. That is why for such tasks I use pair work. They help one another, they use the language, and they compete (against others but against their own record as well).

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to use this worksheet with my students but I cannot wait to use it when time comes.
