Hi Manoj, thanks for sharing your materials for week 1. This is certainly an original ‘short text’ for the content – I love the idea of an advertising hoarding. I’ve never seen it before so full marks on originality.
As you say in your background information, this kind of thing can be an excellent springboard for classroom discusión on a range of topics. It’s authentic and powerful and the image makes it even more motivating.
Your description of the interaction made me smile. You’re right about students wandering off the subject.. That’s something that happens all over the world.
Task I is a nice introduction to get students thinking about the topic. Very clear. Task II – I like the support in this task. Students need it. I think the last prompt could be made clearer if you removed the ‘… ‘ as it might not be used at the beginning of a sentence. I might add ebven more prompts too – maybe some for describing and some for speculating.
I’d like to see how these worked in a real class. Please let us know if you have the opportunity to try them out.
