I have attached my week two assignment. Using the vocabulqry profiler, the text should be aimed for pre-intermediate and intermediate students. To evaluate students² understanding of the text they are given numbers. They need to look back at the text in order to tell the significqnce of these numbers.
I have chosen to use this text with my FCE and CAE students. In order to grqde it to their level I have designed a gapped text activity, which many of the students at this level find it chalenging. Students also have to identify the writer²s attitude and practise agreeing and disagreeing with his ideas. The objective of this activity is to encourage students to extract ideas from a text and use them in speaking especially part three (in both FCE and CAE) where they have to prctise agreeing and disagreeing with another exam candidate

Hi Riadh,
ReplyDeleteThnaks very much s¡for sharing you rmaterials and the lesson plan with the group. What a great idea to base the activities on a series of numbers! An ideal photo too – nice touch.
The LP i sbvery detailed and hopefully in writing it you will have been forced to think about the materials in detail. A logical sequence of tasks and clearly defined aims which the materials allow you to achieve.
Some comments on the worksheet.
I’d add a space between the title of the text (and the writer’s name) and then the actual article – just for clarity.
I can’t see any instructions in the actual materials. Nor can I see any reference to how you’d use the photo. I’d definitly include that somewhere and ad dan instruction.
In the LP pre-reading task you suggest studnets read the article. This is fine as a task but for a pre-reading task students normally don’t read the whole article – so I’d keep this task but maybe and a nother pre-reading task.
E.g. Look at the heading and read the first and last lines. What do you think the article is about?
For the reading part of the materials, I’d suggest something like this on the student’s worksheet. (You can still include the other stages with board work outlined in the LP)
1. Read the article. Then complete the gaps with the missing sentences.
Speaking
This is numbered as 1and seems to be copied from an exisiting book. This probably wouldn’t be allowed because of copyright but if you had a copy of the book in the classroom you could use it. Or you could write something similar.
The instructions aren’t visible in the final task but I can see what they have to do. You need to add ‘Choose two pictures’ to the beginning of the task instruction.
These materials will work well and get studnets developing thei rlanguage skills fo rte exam – but you need to make a few small changes to the student’s worksheet to make them a bit more user-friendly.
