Teachers and students always need leveled supplemental materials.

Teachers and students always need leveled supplemental materials.
I hope to solve that challenge for my students.

Authentic materials: Youtube songs

1.) Identification of need

Children need to quickly and accurately recognize words and structures that promote articulation of basic needs from the beginning stages.

2.) Exploration of language: At School

Students just beginning English at their new school are curious of where they are going, who they will see, how they will feel and things they can do
It is important to provide students the vocabulary and structures to navigate and engage in a variety of classroom activities to help them build rapport with the teachers and other students.

Students can go to school.
Students can understand the roles between teacher and student.
Students can express their feelings
Students can name their possessions.
Students can name colors of their possessions.
Students can express their wants.
Students can express their abilities.

3.) Contextual Realisation

Students can go to school.
---I go to school.

Students can understand the roles between teacher and student.
--Students can express their feelings
--I am. I am a teacher. I am happy.

Students can name possessions.
-A bag. A pencil. A book.

Students can count to 5.
Students can express ownership of possessions.

--1,2,3,4,5.
--My pencils.

Students can name colors of their possessions.
--My bag. It is purple. My pencil. It is orange.
--I have a bag. I have a pencil.

Students can express their wants.
--I want a pencil. I want a book.

Students can express their abilities.
--I can read. I can write.

  5. Hi Rhett,

Thanks for sharing your materials. I just realised I can’t remember commenting on your materials for week 1. I’ll check as soon as I’ve written comments here.

Great that you’ve used a song as the authentic content – always motivating for children (and older students). I didn’t know about these songs either so thanks for introducing me to them.

Lovely clean layout and attractive visuals. I love the mini Rhett! There’s a lot of stuff here too – it’s amazing how much practice you can get from such a small amount of content – but of course that’s the way it is with primary materials.

After using these materials and listening to / learning the song, the chldren will have a lot fo useful child-appropriate vocabulary and will have had a lot of fun.
