The materials were produced with my class of 17-year-old Spanish B2 students in mind.
The rationale behind the use of my school reports is
•The students are likely to engage as it is personal and personalised. It was deliberately chosen as something they could relate to.
•The language in the reports is authentic and requires some negotiation. It can be exploited to highlight collocations and lexical chunks related to success and studying
•Given the time of year, it presents an opportunity for students not only to build their language but also to reflect on their performance and write their own reports.

Hi Geraldine, I've added comments to the Google doc. What a great idea to use extracts from a real school report. I bet your students love it. The good thing about something like this is that you can store it and then use it again and again with successive classes.

ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing - it could be a good starter for a new class - all my students will be new to me after the summer holidays, so it would be a fine way for them to introduce themselves and their level of english.

ReplyDeleteThis is such a great idea! One thing I really really like about it is that it introduces students to two different people's handwriting. That's something I've never thought about but seeing your activities made me realize how important it is that my students can understand and communicate (written or spoken) with people other than just me!

ReplyDeleteAnne Hendler Thank you very much Anne. Your point made me think of a time I invited a guest speaker into one of my classes. It was a strong group b1 and I was so surprised at the issues the students and the speaker had when they tried to communicate with each other.
