Week 3 Materials
My designed activity could be the springboard for the further development of the.topic RELATIONSHIPS and HUMAN VALUES.
According to the Vocabulary Profiler the story contains 4% of B1, 1% of B2 ,76% of A1 and 6% of A2 CEFR levels vocabulary.
I would recommend to discuss this material based on picture - story combination with B1 and B2 levels, as well as.C1 and C2. Think A1 and A2 CEFR levels learners might not be ready for the discussion of the topic.
The photos for the collage are from Pixabay. Like their photos.
Hi Mariia,
ReplyDeleteThanks for uploading your week 3 materials. Human values is very much a key theme these days and I’m sure lots of participants will be happy to see and use your materials.
Lovely choice of images from Pixabay – very motivating.
A few points.
Task I – I think the instructions could be tighted a bit. You mention a deskmate and groupmates. So maybe start stages of instructions with: Work with a partner or Work in a group.
This is a great first task though.
Task II (I’m assuming this is an audio) – lovely.
Task V – add ‘?’
A lovely sequence of activities on the subject of friendship.
I have noticed that people do not allow comments in the document itself (the settings, probably default and that's why they don't even notice, are "view only"). I think it would be very useful if we had the opportunity to leave comments in the document itself, as it is much easier to highlight a part of the text and comment on it rather than exit and gather all your thoughts in the comments area here. This is a general comment, but I didn't knwo where to write it :)
ReplyDeleteMariia Ruban Lovely images and I love the topic of relationships and human values. I also like the fact that you have Ss find out what the topic of the lesson is using images as a starting point. Another thing I like it that you refer to the senses. Plus you picked an interesting reading passage. There are a few punctuations issues though.
Finally, I would work on the layout if I were you (but I think it is possible that Google docs messed it up :) I have to check how my materials present themselves: the way I left them or messed up by Google docs? I know it happens sometimes.)
Margarita Kosior Thanks
ReplyDelete+Margarita a looot for the comment. You are right about the layout of the material. I have a lot to learn. It's been my first ever experience with Google docs, as well as Google drive :) So I am happy learning here from people!!!! Belong to the older generation of teachers, with more than 34 years of teaching experience, and am an immigrant to the wonderful world of technologies. They make a big differencein ELT. Have always been sincere with my learners that I am computer illiterate, but willing to learn. They are very happy to be helpful any time, and there is respectful learning/ teaching environment.
Loooove learning and believe it's better to fail than not to try :)

Maria Ruban Absolutely! I agree with you. Plus exploring the world of technology can be really exciting, so enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteKatherine Bilsborough Hello Katherine, I have been learning by reading your feedback on people's posts, as well as mine. Am grateful for the opportunity to learn.
ReplyDeleteI didn't find audio, but I meant to, for the story part in my Week 3 Material. I will look for it and will have to figure out how to cut the part needed for the material. I have the book so I copied part of the chapter from the book. I often use " The Little Prince" at my lessons to promote different human values described by the author. I make photocopies, read to my learners, or invite them to roleplay.
Task V - add? Did you mean the number of words is not enough for an essay? I know, this number is appropriate for a short informal letter, not an essay. At the beginning I planned it to be a letter to a friend with at least 100 words, then thought it would be too long... What happened next was my inability to edit the task because of unfamiliar reasons and i quit. Know that 150 - 200 words is the optimal number for essays.
Thank you, thank you, thank you :)
Maria Ruban Katherine Bilsborough Oh , Katherine, I remember you told me to save my material in PDF to make the layout neet and attractive, but I was not able to do this. I did my task in Google docs and it saves only Word document. So I still don't know how to do this.
ReplyDeleteMaria Ruban Sorry Maria, I meant add a question mark to Task V.
