Which ONE piece of advice would you give a teacher who wanted to create their own classroom material?
Don't fall down the rabbit hole! By that I mean, avoid those frustrating situations where you think you'll 'just' look for an interesting authentic text, only to realize 5 hours (or days) later you haven't done anything or got anywhere. I'd love to hear advice on how to avoid this.
Yes. The rabbit hole is deep. Stay clear of its temptations.
ReplyDeleteOne piece of advice I would offer is: build a library of authentic texts, videos, songs etc. in advance. I collect links to the stuff which I think will be useful somewhere in the future. Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't. But at least I don't experience the 'empty page' syndrome.
ReplyDeleteRoman Ociepa I am currently building a library at my school (online). It will home all my ideas for my teaching and the children’s learning. A syallabus will be my best friend.
ReplyDeleteI agree on building a personal reposit/ library for material. I collect realia everywhere I go. I love to work with digital material but also with leaflets, magazines etc..
ReplyDeleteRoman Ociepa Good advice. This is definitely something I need to do more.
ReplyDeleteMiss Alex Nice tip. It's certainly true that materials are everywhere.
ReplyDeleteI live half my life down the rabbit hole Geraldine! If I come up with an answer for this, I'll be able to get rich quick, I think. Building a library of materials is a great idea. having an 'ideas' book is another one. Though for most participants I'm sure that 'ideas' aren't the problem but 'time' is.
ReplyDeleteKatherine Bilsborough I feel better knowing that I'm not alone! A big yes to time being the problem.
