Hello, everybody.

Hello, everybody.

This is my assignment for Week 2. Sorry for sharing it so late, but the last few days have been very busy for me. It's a worksheet for B2 students on an article from TimeOut London magazine (actually it's taken from the website - you can find all the links in my notes). I use magazines very often when I teach and I especially like TimeOut as I use it a lot to create decision making activities (what events/films to choose etc.) Here, I tried to deal with challenging vocabulary and introduce students to authentic magazine-style writing and language. I hope you enjoy it and look forward to your feedback!

  1. Hi Myrto,
Thanks for sharing your materials. Time Out is a great source for authentic texts – as you say. I like how you’ve used this particular text to enable a speaking activity and then a writing.

Great intro task using the pictures and title as a lead in – and then sharing personal experiences about London. A very authentic task.

Task 2 could be slightly changed tos ay: Read this … and then: Which four things …? By making it a (simple) question, you just giev an extra reason for reading.

Task 3 is nice too – personalised. Is this a spoeaking task or writing? Maybe it needs to be made explicit.

Nice vocabulry activities with interesting words and phrases. I’m assuming they’ll be in red in the texts too (as you have here) so they can be found easily.

Task 5 – a small thing but you don’t explain what NG means.

Great to have two comprehensive tasks – you’ve certainly made a comprehensive ‘unit’ of materials from these texts.

Nice, real speaking task and great to have a model here for support.
Great writing task too – bringing it home.

Excellent materials. I’m sure a lot of teachers would be very happy to use them with their students.

  2. Nice wrap-up with research and writing. Would you have them post their review on a classroom blog or social media page?
