I used to teach adults with no specific interest other than they just wanted to learn the language. They would come to class exhausted from work, from taking care of the kids and so on. Their mobile phones would always be on and I took advantage of that. As far as adults go, they want to talk about serious issues, but usually coursebooks don't really touch on these. The outcome was usually a heated debate. (This would be one of the mildest ones!)
PS. This is my dog, Nava.

  1. Great debate and I think it could easily be followed by similar debates on stray animals or animals in zoos.

  2. I really like this one! I can see my students being part of this debate as well. It's a great opportunity to prepare students for debates, starting from an early age since it helps them develop their critical thinking as well. Also, I believe that the structure or the expressions should be taught simultaneously while debating so that students remember them better :). Great job!

  3. Hi Anastasia,

Thnaks for sharing your week 3 materials. Controversial issues is always an interesting theme for student materials and something we can playa round with whe we know our students well.

The look of the worksheet is clean and Sharp. I like the way you’ve designed the page as it’s clear and inviting. You’ve got just 2 simple tasks (one main one) but I imagine it will generate a lot of useful discussion and a lot of language will be learnt.

    The useful vocabulary is great.

Task 1. Do students talk on the issue giving both isdes of the argument’ I think so, but maybe this needs to be made absolutely clear.

    Well done!
