When creating my own teaching material, first I want it to have meaningful and comprehensible input, to be short, not long and boring, eye-catching- which means if it is possible I include ilustrations and pictures, Krashen's i1+1, interesting and to challenge the student/s.

  1. Hi Renata, I write a lot of materials for primary and we're always told to include illustrations and photos that will help students to understand - never just for decoration. We're also told that to use more illustrations with younger children and then more photos with older children who can understand the real world. I think drawing and photography is a good skill for a writer to have. That way you can make your own images.

  2. Hi Katherine!
I agree, yes. I also use lots of illustrations, drawings and pictures when teaching young learners as well as adults. They make the material more enjoyable, learnable as well as interesting, and yes they are always connected to the context and the focus of that particular class.

  3. I totally agree. Having meaningful input is what makes the selection process the most important (an time consuming) part of material design.
