Which ONE piece of advice would you give a teacher who wanted to create their own classroom material?
Think about the reality of your students. You know the people, you know where they live, you know where they are in their studies and you know where they want to be. Take advantage of all this "privileged information" when you create your own classroom material.
Nobody knows the students as good as the teacher. I love keeping things local. These days I have trying to create lessons that incorporate the neighborhood( parks, play grounds, fountains and shops).
ReplyDeleteYes, definitely a good point, Danielle. We can easily become detached from the reality. I have talked with people and they had ideas to make their own books or materials. However, their ideas were targeted at nobody.
ReplyDeleteSometimes it is too early to produce a book. I have been observing the Polish market and some of my ideas will have to wait at least two or three years. But again, the world of ELT materials is the world of patience :)
Such an important point! Write and create for your own students first and foremost, if you can do that. If what you make meets a more universal need, it can be adjusted for a wider market later.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the comments ! :-D
