Hello again! This is my assignment for week nr 2.
I have chosen a summer camp leaflet ( yes, I know I keep working around summer theme and stuff, I can't help it:-). This is an authentic leaflet taken from site http://www.pescharlotte.org/summer
I used the vocabulary profiler suggested in yesterday's class ( which was revealing for me) and the texts were mainly A1 and A2 levels so I decided to keep them and use them for my students which are supposed to be at A2 level. I have provided vocabulary exercises to work on the difficult and unknown words. The lesson plan starts with a general understanding of the text. This would be possible with quick reading and scanning for information.
After that, I chose to provide a comprehension exercise with questions and answers. At this point, the focus is still on the general meaning. From this point on the focus would be on the vocabulary: two exercises are provided to find out the meaning of the new words and to use it in other sentences. Finally, two short production exercises are given: a short email and a message.

What a nice worksheet! I love the 2nd exercise, /only the most important info to be written/. I would really like to use it on my classes this week, if I am allowed, of course.
ReplyDeleteIt is all about vocabulary; a great lesson can come out of this!
The worksheet is so attractive. I'm sure students will be really thrilled to have it.
ReplyDeleteThe material is very interesting - thanks a lot for sharing - wish I could join these camps :-) In the 3rd exercise I was a little confused about which camp(s) the questions referred to. But the overall concept was very good and interesting.
ReplyDeleteI like how children student search for the information and how they fill the information on the same page. I like having information collected on one page because It 'contained' and can be easily referenced at a later date.
ReplyDeleteI am curious:
I have never really used capitals to write out the instructions. Do you do this to contrast the difference between your worksheet and the brochure?
This is so easy to follow and it's nice that you added the sections on the side. I think it can be hard not to overcrowd pages, and this has a good balance.
ReplyDeleteRenata Todorovska Fell free to use as much as you want! Thank you
ReplyDeleteRhett Burton That is a good point actually. I usually use capital letters when I write instructions for a test, so as to make it more clear for the students. I have used capitals even in this worksheet, I actually even underlined the sentences and changed colour. I guess it was to point out the instructions even more. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteEmel Ortac thank you!
ReplyDeleteThank you Miss Alex! I will use it tomorrow 😊
ReplyDeleteHi Miss Alex,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your materials. Really great idea to use the summer course leaflet and I’m especially pleased you found the vocabulary profiler useful. I remember when someone showed it to me. I was bowled over and I have used it ever since – even though it isn’t perfect. It’s a great starting place.
I like the way you’ve incorporated the activities into the actual leaflet.
A few points.
I think I might write the background nformation (Your mum …) as a general introducton and then make the task 1 instruction: Read the leaflet (and add a general Q here)
The Reading is quite long so it might also be useful to get learners to read just the introduction first – to break them in gently. Or you could start off with a question about the leaflet’s features, the heading or the photo.
Note-taking activities are great for developing real skills – in this case ‘transfering information’. It’s something we do every day.
Why have you used upper case? (Just curious)
I’m glad you have underlined the words that the learners will need to match in Ex 4. You could also think about adding numbers to sections of the leaflet so as to be able to refer to them easily.
You’ve made a lot of materials around this one authentic text- it could probably last a couple of classes.
What a complete sheet!!!! Great activitie that are well-connected. I would do some of them orally. Number 6 is missing. Thanks for sharing!!!
