I would like to ask a question - Is there a designer who gives the final touch to all the material - decorating the pages, texts, exercises....or the author is the one who does it all, when we speak about writing a student's book for example?

  3. As far as the situation in Pakistan is concerned, if it's online/self published material, the writer creates it and can then work with team to refine it. The team is of course, paid by the writer, but sometimes we can find either volunteers or interns to help us.

  5. Renata, when we speak about typical student's book, there is always an editor and graphic designer who take care of the visual side of the book.
Actually, the author usually doesn't know much about the rules of dividing the page (e.g. the right proportions of margins and the body of the text) or the technical aspects of setting the publication.

  6. Roman Ociepa Thank you so much! A team work, everyone doing their job, but still I guess they consult each other because the author has a vision while preparing the material.

  7. Renata Todorovska Yes, the author has a vision, but a designer will help a lot, as he or she is used to working on this kind of publication. For sure it is a team work.

  9. An excellent question and lots of good answers. The truth is, there is not one correct answer. It depends on lots of things. If you are thinking of creating some materials for publication on your own, I'd always suggest getting together with someone who might have different skills to yours. It isn't only materials writers who want to develop their skills. Designers want to create things too so collaborations are ideal. You probably know people who are good at graphic design but you might not even be aware of it. In my personal experience the young people in my life have usually come to my help.
