In my teaching I use photos. My photographs mainly. ( This is a photo of my daughter. )
☆ I give every student a copy of this photo and first I ask them to think of a heading.
☆ They all come up with different headings and tell me why they gave such heading for the photograph.
☆ The focus on this class is on speaking, so we talk about this picture... ( I sometimes put some papers on the table, each with a question : What does it show? Where was it taken? What can you say about the person on the photo? What emotions does this photo create in you? ..... )
When we finish the discussion I give them old newspapers and some scissors and ask them to find a photo they want to describe. They cut it out, show their classmates and talk about it.
I usually do such activities with A2 and B1 level students.
I am looking forward to comments and ideas ....
That's an interesting way of eliciting things from students. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteBTW your daughter is really cute! ; )
Hi Renata, thanks for sharing. I love using photos for teaching and this photo is perfect. This week's task was to create materials using a short text as the content.I was expecting to see a worksheet for example. I wanted to be able to check things like layout and design, sequencing and instructions. It doesn't matter though! And you aren't the only participant who hasn't followed the brief. I'll be giving you an image-based task in week 3 and I think this photo would be ideal for that - incorporated into materials. I agree with Sophia - she's cute! Other children of the same age would especially find this photo motivating as they'd identify with her.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sophia!
ReplyDeleteHi Katherine! It seems like I want to say all I do in my classes. Smile! Sure, I prepared the worksheets (from the first post) and have just uploaded them.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the beautiful words about my daughter!
Renata Todorovska Great - I look forward to seeing the worksheets.
